Blessy was a famous face in the Night Light Café in the first months of 2017. Blessy and I have spent many hours together over a game of Jenga or Mikado; We have made jewelry and we have tied flower bouquet of seasonal flowers – all in the middle of the night in the Elias church where she paused from the ‘job’. After a few months, Blessy took a decision. She wanted to leave her life as a prostitute, so she accepted the offer of returning to Nigeria. She came to a safe house in Benin City, where EXIST collaborates with where she lived for a few months. Here she was reunited with her family, and she lives with them now. A month ago, she opened her own shop where she sells cosmetics, lemonade and other good stuff. I had the great pleasure of meeting Blessy in Benin City in August 2017, and what a pleasure to meet this brave woman. Blessy has now got family, home and own business. She has a future, and there are stories like Blessys, we are cheering over, and we want to see even more of.
