Human trafficking on Vesterbro and in Nigeria
The everyday for the young, Nigerian prostitutes who meet customers at Vesterbro in the darkest hours of the night is raw, hard, relentless and humiliating.
Most women are victims of human trafficking and are staying in Denmark illegally – without the possibility of medical care, public support, police protection or community.
Lonely, often deeply traumatized and addicted to criminal backers who have sold them as modern slaves, the young, often teenage girls, must sell their bodies to male stranger every single night.
You can choose to make a difference
Human trafficking, modern slavery, cynical confinement, coercion and extortion are comprehensive and complex issues which requires international networks, efforts and organizations to fight.
Human trafficking is a global problem that crosses borders. It can only be solved transnationally.
The good news
The good news is that you can choose to make a difference.
By purchasing a safehouse share for either DKK 200, 1000 or 5000, you can be part of supporting 3 safehouses where trafficked women who want out of prostitution can be rehabilitated.
With your contribution, you are paving the way for women to establish a financially sustainable and independent living in Nigeria.
A safehouse is a safe home for trafficked women who have chosen to leave a life in prostitution.
At a safehouse we offer the women a caring environment, a dignified everyday life and a supportive community. A community who supports a woman’s education based on her personal resources, needs and dreams. She gains a new connection to the labor market and a new participation in the local community.
The goal is to reestablish the woman’s sense of dignity, to strengthen her identity, and to include her in a warm and progressive community that gives her specific opportunities to support herself.
A total of 480 safehouse shares are put up for sale.
The shares ensure that in 2019 there will be offered spots on the safe houses in Nigeria for 37 women, that three of the safe houses can be renovated, and that nine of the employees on these safe houses can be upskilled.
When you buy a share, you receive a box with a beautiful design magnet. You can then hang the magnet on your workplace or on your refrigerator to remind yourself, colleagues and friends of your commitment to the fight against human trafficking.
You can receive 5 newsletters a year and you will be invited to lectures where you can follow the project’s development and results.
